Hi! My name is Shondolyn Young Richardson and this is my story:
After 21 years of teaching, at the end of July 2020, I prayerfully made the difficult decision of resigning from my teaching position due to Covid-19. Even though there were times of uncertainty and second guessing, initially, I decided to put the safety of my family first.
Over the next few weeks, I recognized that SO many parents decided to make this difficult decision for their children as well, to keep them as safe as possible. At the same time, I realized that the challenges were overwhelming and causing some to second guess their decision. I wanted to provide them with the support needed to alleviate some of the stress and ensure their child’s success, while maintaining the educational choice that made them feel the most comfortable.
So, I launched my ONLINE, reading literacy tutoring and consulting business, Tailored Literacy. Now, I have the opportunity to help parents of HOMESCHOOL or TRADITIONAL SCHOOL students (K-3rd grade) get the assistance they need and help children reach their full potential as readers through an approach that’s tailored to their individual needs and interests.
Over the past year, I have been blessed to work with several children and watch their reading growth explode by leaps and bounds. For example, one child in particular, grew from a Kindergarten to 3.5 grade level reader in just 8 months!! As a result, these young readers are gaining strong academic skills that will have a LIFE-LONG impact!
My credentials include a Master’s Degree in Reading/Literacy, a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, Certified Reading Specialist, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of reading as well.
