Learning Gaps

Sometimes a child is struggling to read simply because they have learning “gaps” caused by missed basic instruction (ie.  phonics, etc.).   This gets compounded when they advance to the next grade…unprepared. It is HIGHLY likely that their reading gaps will NOT be filled in the next grade, because they are expected to have those skills already.

While already facing frustration and embarrassment, the child is then asked to do more challenging reading tasks and assignments.  Now, they have to work harder and harder to “save face” or “cover up” their struggle. This does NOT have to be the end of the story for your child. In fact, it is best to address these problems as early as possible, so that your child has the best chance to SUCCEED as a reader and even EXCEL to the next level.
